Two police officers were injured yesterday afternoon when a 29-year-old man attacked them with a knife and a paper cutter during an arrest in a Famagusta district village.
Officers from the Xylofagou and Xylotymbou police stations deployed to the village at around 5:30 p.m. to track down the 29-year-old suspect. The man was wanted under an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear in court for ongoing cases.
Police units found the suspect outside his home, where he confronted them holding a knife and a paper cutter while making verbal threats.
During the confrontation, the 29-year-old lunged at the officers, causing abrasions to their arms. The officers managed to restrain the suspect and subsequently placed him under arrest.
The two injured officers went to the Famagusta General Hospital, where medical staff administered first aid before discharging them.
