Tense moments unfolded on Thursday afternoon at Molos beach in Limassol, near “Thalassaki,” when four people in the sea began calling for help.
According to reports, bathers who heard the calls initially thought it was a joke. Within seconds, however, they realised that four people, caught between two breakwaters, were genuinely in danger and were calling for help.
Lifeguards stationed in the watchtower reacted immediately, getting on a jet ski and rushing to the scene. Two of the four were struggling against the waves, while about 15 metres away, two foreign nationals were in difficulty, with one trying to keep his friend afloat after the friend had lost his strength.
Lifeguards pulled the man from the water and gave him first aid on the beach, while an ambulance was also called to the scene. According to the same reports, the man regained consciousness, but had swallowed a large amount of seawater and vomited; it is believed he had eaten before entering the sea.
The swift and coordinated response by the lifeguards proved decisive.
