The Cyprus Fire Service responded to 36 incidents over the last 24 hours, including 22 fires and 11 special service calls, according to spokesperson Andreas Kettis.
Three of the calls recorded were found to be false alarms.
Extensive damage to Pera Orinis home
A fire broke out at 02:31 at an old two-storey house in the community of Pera Orinis, causing extensive damage to the building and its contents.
Occupants inside the property noticed the fire in time and escaped safely. Firefighters evacuated neighbouring houses as a precaution. Four fire engines attended the scene and managed to contain the flames before they could spread. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Suspected arson at abandoned factory
At 21:11, fire crews responded to a blaze in a room of an abandoned brick factory in Nicosia. Waste materials stored inside the space were destroyed.
Three fire engines attended the scene, with crews using water hoses and breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire. Preliminary findings suggest the fire was started maliciously, with the involvement of youths not being ruled out.
Ambulances damaged in Geroskipou
Shortly after 01:00, a fire broke out involving four ambulances parked at a private hospital in Geroskipou.
Three of the vehicles sustained extensive damage to their front sections, while the fourth suffered minor damage. Two fire engines were mobilised to put out the blaze. Investigators will examine the cause of the fire today.
