Yellow warning issued for thunderstorms, hail in mountains and inland areas

The Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms affecting mountainous areas and inland regions, valid from 11:00am to 6:00pm today.

Isolated thunderstorms are expected mainly in the mountains and inland, with hail possible during storms. Rainfall intensity could locally exceed 35mm per hour.

A weak low-pressure system is influencing the region.

Today

Conditions will be mainly clear but with localised low cloud and patchy fog early in the day. Cloud will build during the afternoon, bringing isolated showers and thunderstorms mainly in the mountains and inland areas, with hail possible. Winds will start variable and light at force three, gradually shifting south-westerly to north-westerly at force three to four, with gusts of up to force five along southern coasts. The sea will be slight to moderate. Temperatures will reach 35°C inland, 30°C on most coasts, 27°C on western coasts, and 25°C on the higher peaks.

Outlook: Wednesday to Friday

Conditions will be mainly clear in the mornings, with cloud building in the afternoons to bring isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the mountains and inland. Temperatures will remain at similar levels, slightly above seasonal averages.
