Woman reports partner for rape as second suspect faces court over rape allegation

Police arrested two men within 24 hours on suspicion of rape in separate cases in the Famagusta district. Both will appear before Famagusta District Court in Paralimni for remand orders.

In the first case, a 23-year-old woman filed a complaint on May 18 alleging that her 41-year-old partner had intercourse with her against her will. Police obtained an arrest warrant and detained the suspect on Wednesday night in a municipal area of Paralimni.

In the second case, a 20-year-old tourist filed a complaint on May 19 at Larnaca airport, where she had gone to board a flight home.

She alleged that on May 16 she met a man at an entertainment venue in Ayia Napa and that the two later went to her apartment, where her friends were also present. She alleged the man raped her. Famagusta CID investigated and identified a 23-year-old suspect, who was also arrested on Wednesday night.
