Soldier on ventilator with meningitis at ELDYK base as two more cases monitored

A soldier serving with the Greek Forces in Cyprus (ELDYK) has been hospitalised with meningitis and placed on a ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

The Ministry of Defence told philenews the soldier is not in danger and could be discharged as early as Friday if his condition continues to improve. Two further suspected cases at the same unit are being monitored.

The Ministry said it has been implementing containment measures since Wednesday, including disinfection and isolation of the camp, spraying, replacement of bedding, and the administration of medication to the soldier’s contacts.
