A marked drop in temperatures and isolated weekend storms are forecast to end the current unseasonably warm spell across Cyprus, according to the Department of Meteorology.
While inland temperatures will peak at 27°C on Thursday, a regional disturbance arriving Friday is expected to bring local showers, thunder, and a significant cooling trend that will push values below the seasonal average by Saturday.
Thursday will see a gradual increase in medium and high-level cloud cover, accompanied by north-easterly to easterly winds reaching 5 Beaufort in leeward areas. These winds will maintain slightly turbulent to rough sea conditions through the night.
The transition begins in earnest on Friday with cloudy periods and local rain, followed by widespread showers and isolated storms on Saturday.
By Sunday, the atmospheric instability is expected to concentrate over the mountains and the interior after midday. The temperature decrease will be “significant” through Saturday, with “negligible change” on Sunday.
This ensures that the cooler-than-normal conditions will persist throughout the weekend, contrasting sharply with the 26°C to 27°C recorded earlier in the week.
