Larnaca CID is investigating an attempted murder case after a 19-year-old man was stabbed at a nightclub in Larnaca on April 12, with police seeking a 24-year-old Syrian suspect.
Police said the alleged offences, which also include acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, assault causing grievous bodily harm and carrying a knife, were committed at about 10 pm at a nightlife venue in a coastal area of Larnaca.
The suspect and the victim, a 19-year-old Greek Cypriot, were both at the same nightclub, though they were not known to each other, police said.
At some point, apparently because of the crowd, they bumped into each other, leading to an argument and an attack in which the victim was struck in the face.
As the victim was returning to his table, he felt a burning sensation on the back right side of his body and realised he was bleeding.
Friends took him to the hospital, where doctors found he had a 3cm blind wound to the right kidney area and a ruptured kidney caused by a sharp instrument.
He remains in hospital for treatment and, although his condition is considered serious, he is out of danger.
The scene was examined by Larnaca CID officers, who collected evidence. Subsequent inquiries identified the suspect, police said.
An arrest warrant has been issued for the 24-year-old and he is being sought by police.
Investigations are continuing.
