Cyprus Police are stepping up security across Nicosia, Larnaca and Famagusta districts during the informal EU leaders’ summit on April 23-24, with intermittent road closures and a nationwide drone ban in force.
Drivers should expect brief, periodic closures on urban roads in all three districts, as well as on the Nicosia–Larnaca and Larnaca–Ayia Napa motorways throughout both days.
On Thursday, April 23, part of Ayias Theklas Avenue and surrounding streets near Ayia Napa Marina will close from 4:00pm to 11:00pm.
On Friday, April 24, Aglantzias Avenue — between the Aluminium Tower traffic lights and the Academy roundabout — will close from 7:30am to 6:00pm.
The Search and Rescue Coordination Centre, working with police, has also issued NAVTEX notice NW 120/26, prohibiting navigation in waters around Ayia Napa Marina from 4:00pm to 11:00pm on Thursday, April 23.
A Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works order bans all drone use across Cyprus on both days.
Police are asking the public to be patient and to follow road closure instructions and the directions of officers on duty.
