North-based footballer Souleymane Doukara has travelled to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after being included in the Mauritania national team’s squad.
Doukara, 32, plays as a striker for Famagusta-based club and the north’s defending league champions Magusa Turk Gucu, having joined in the summer from Turkish side Genclerbirligi.
This season, he has scored 12 goals in 14 league games with his side sitting second in the league.
He also won silverware in the form of the north’s Super Cup in September, with Magusa Turk Gucu having beaten Turk Ocagi Limasol 2-0.
Earlier in his career, he had played for English club Leeds United, Italian club Catania, and Al-Ettifaq of Saudi Arabia.
Mauritania play their first AFCON group stage game on Tuesday against Burkina Faso, before facing Angola and Algeria on January 20 and 23.
