A two-vehicle collision late Friday night on the Nicosia-Limassol motorway near Choirokoitia left one car completely destroyed by fire.
A car driven by a 34-year-old man, carrying two 40-year-old passengers in the left lane, moved into the right lane under circumstances being investigated and collided with the rear of a car driven by a 48-year-old woman at 12:30 am. The 34-year-old driver subsequently lost control of his vehicle and struck the left guardrail.
The collision caused a fire to break out in the 34-year-old’s car, but the driver and his two passengers managed to exit the vehicle safely in time.
The Fire Service responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze, which completely destroyed the vehicle.
Both drivers returned negative breathalyser tests for alcohol and were transported to Larnaca General Hospital primarily for precautionary reasons. The two passengers in the 34-year-old’s vehicle were not injured.
Zygi Police Station is continuing its investigation into the accident.
