The Fire Service responded to an emergency call early Saturday morning after a fire broke out at an abandoned house in Paphos.
The fire started under circumstances that are currently being investigated at a residence located very close to the Paphos Bishopric. Although the property was known to have been abandoned for years, authorities discovered upon the outbreak of the fire that homeless individuals were staying there. All occupants managed to evacuate the building in time and were not endangered.
The flames caused extensive damage to the house, primarily affecting the interior and the exterior walls, before firefighters extinguished the blaze following emergency calls from nearby residents.
The property is the paternal home of Androulla Vassiliou, which was purchased by a foreign national a few years ago.
Following the extinguishment of the fire, police and fire investigators began an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
