Nearly €600,000 in undeclared cash and cheques seized at Agios Dometios crossing

Customs Department officers seized €29,300 in cash and 39 Israeli bank cheques worth approximately 1,903,500 Israeli shekels (nearly €569,000) from a driver at the Agios Dometios crossing point on May 21, after the man said he had brought the funds from Israel without declaring them at Larnaca Airport on arrival.

The seizure came during routine Green Line Regulation checks when officers stopped a rental car and carried out a physical search, uncovering the cash in €100 and €200 banknotes alongside the cheques. When questioned, the driver said the money did not come from the occupied north.

Both the cash and the cheques were seized. The case has been referred to the Customs Headquarters Investigations Section for further investigation.
