Nearly €200,000 in undeclared cash seized at Paphos Airport

Customs Department officers at Paphos Airport seized €199,950 in cash after finding it concealed inside 13 socks stuffed into shoes in a passenger’s luggage, after the traveller arrived from Dublin without declaring the money.

Acting on information from the Office for Combating Money Laundering (MOKAS), officers subjected the bags of a Ukrainian national to X-ray screening. The scan raised further suspicions and a physical search uncovered the cash.

The entire sum was seized and the case referred to the Customs Headquarters Investigations Section for further investigation.
