Inland heat to reach 37°C ahead of isolated afternoon thunderstorms

The Department of Meteorology has forecast isolated showers and thunderstorms across mountain and inland areas for Monday afternoon, alongside temperatures that are expected to peak at 37°C.

Morning clear skies will give way to increased cloud cover after midday, triggering localised showers.

Winds will initially blow from the southeast to southwest at a light force three Beaufort, shifting progressively to a southwest-to-northwest direction at a light-to-moderate force three to four Beaufort.

Windward coastal locations may briefly experience stronger gusts reaching force five Beaufort, while the sea is expected to remain smooth to slight.

Temperatures will rise to 37°C inland, 30°C along the western coast, approximately 32°C across the remaining shorelines, and 26°C in the higher mountain regions.

By Monday night, the weather will turn predominantly clear. Overnight winds will blow from the northwest to northeast at a light force three Beaufort, though western coastal regions will experience slightly stronger conditions at force three to four Beaufort.

The sea will remain smooth to slight.

The unsettled pattern is expected to recur on Tuesday, with a familiar mix of early clear conditions followed by afternoon cloud cover, bringing a renewed risk of isolated rain or thunderstorms to the mountains and interior.

A more stable pattern will return on Wednesday and Thursday, with predominantly clear skies forecast as temperatures gradually climb further above the seasonal average.
