Cyprus weather forecast: 37C inland heat, clear skies Thursday

Temperatures will climb to 37 degrees on Thursday, the Department of Meteorology said, as mostly clear skies continue across Cyprus.

Winds will blow mainly southwest to northwest, starting variable and light to moderate at force 3 to 4, before strengthening in the south during the afternoon to force 5, according to the department.

The sea will be smooth to slight.

Coastal areas will see lower temperatures than inland, with highs of 29 degrees on the western coast, around 33 degrees on the remaining coasts and 28 degrees in the higher mountains, the department said.

Skies will remain mostly clear on Thursday night, though the department said increased low cloud will develop locally in the west. Low cloud, mist or fog may also form gradually in the eastern half of the island. Winds will ease to force 3, blowing mainly southwest to northwest and locally variable.

Friday is forecast to be mostly clear, the department said. Saturday and Sunday will bring temporary increases in cloud during the afternoons, with isolated rain possible in the mountains on Sunday.

Temperatures are expected to hold steady through the weekend, remaining close to seasonal averages.
