Cyprus Culloing Complete: 6650 Animals Slaughtered Due to Foot-and-Mouth

The Ministry of Agriculture has completed all pending animal cullings across Cyprus within a two-day timeframe to combat an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, according to an official announcement.

Veterinary Services personnel culled approximately 6,650 animals across Nicosia, Limassol, and Larnaca districts, hitting targets ahead of schedule.

The ministry stated that Veterinary Services officers worked continuously through the day and night under highly challenging conditions to complete the operation. In Larnaca district, work at certain farming units continued until 4:00 am on Saturday.

Support from the Cyprus Police and the National Guard was critical to the quick and effective implementation of the operational plan, the ministry added. Officials emphasised that joint cooperation among all involved parties serves as the most effective tool to eradicate the disease, protect the livestock sector, and safeguard the country’s food security.
