The sweltering heatwave gripping Europe in the past week will be making its presence felt over the next few days, with temperatures gradually reaching the first scorcher of this year’s summer as humidity also slides upwards.
Today a low pressure system will continue to affect the island, bringing isolated showers in the afternoon, with the possibility of storms, mostly on the mountains.
Winds will initially be light force three, later turning light to moderate southwesterly to northwesterly, force three to four and in windward coastal regions, strong force five over slight seas.
Temperatures will rise to 35 degrees Celsius inland, 29 on the west coast, 32 in the rest of the coastal regions and 23 on the mountains.
Mostly clear in the evening, but later turning overcast and misty, with light northwesterly to northeasterly winds, force three, over calm to slight seas.
Temperatures will drop to 19 degrees Celsius inland, 21 in coastal regions and 15 on the mountains.
Tomorrow and Tuesday will see isolated showers and storms mainly in certain inland regions and on the mountains, as Wednesday turns mostly fine and hot.
Temperatures will rise to over the seasonal average, climbing to the near 40s for the first time this summer.
