Constandinos Tsindas comments on the 2nd semifinal
Well, some can definitely eat their heart out or enjoy some fine vinegar from Cyprus grapes-yes we are Middle Eastern Europeans and we love it- as Mediterranean passion danced its way into the final, from the fire of Antigoni to the tender suffering voice of Maltese Aidan.
It took them a while, with Cyprus being announced as a finalist in 7th place out of ten available places, booking its ticket for more and more Jalla in the grand Saturday’s affair.
25 countries are vying for the coveted prize in the landmark 70th Eurovision edition.
Yes, we can admit that now. Was it the best vocals? Perhaps not. Did we hear better ones? Maybe yes.
But that doesn’t really play a part. This contest is about how much you want it and what kind of personality you have, what your heart is made of.
And Antigoni won the day on that account, fighting her way through first time nerves, the weight of a country on her shoulders.
She shone above it with a big smile.
We will lift up the Mediterranean sun again on the doorstep to a blazing summer.
Dance again and again. This is how you do it.
Along with Cyprus and Malta, all the favourites went through, including Bulgaria, Ukraine, Norway, Romania, Australia, Albania, Denmark and Czechia.
Their slot of appearance will be drawn through a lot over the next few hours.
So nothing more to comment about. As we say in Greek, ‘Ante Geia’.
