Livestock farmers warned of new protests unless President Nikos Christodoulides agrees to meet their newly formed association by Monday afternoon.
The warning came after Stavros Malas, head of the Special Scientific Committee for the Reconstruction and Upgrading of the Livestock Sector and president of the Cyprus Institute, met on Saturday with a three-member delegation from the newly formed association “The Voice of Livestock Farmers”.
After the meeting, livestock farmers’ representative Christodoulos Christodoulou said Malas had briefed them on the course of foot-and-mouth disease and the next steps.
Christodoulou said the farmers had raised their concerns and insisted on a meeting with President Christodoulides.
“The government is unacceptable. They are planning for tomorrow, they do not care about today,” Christodoulou said.
“They put Malas in charge of planning for tomorrow. Today depends on the Veterinary Services, the President and the government,” he added.
“They have no solution, they have no plan. The President has until Monday afternoon,” he said.
Christodoulou warned that if the President does not agree to meet the association, livestock farmers will hold new protests.
