Drousiotis announces foreclosure investigation presentation

Journalist Makarios Drousiotis has announced he will publish an investigation into property repossessions on Monday, while claiming that a coordinated effort to discredit and humiliate him is currently under way.

In a new post related to the Sandy affair, Drousiotis said the investigation would examine what he described as “an organised plan to seize properties, using the need to resolve the non-performing loans problem as a pretext.”

He said the investigation is based on official documents, but that his original impetus was the SMS messages at the centre of the Sandy case — messages which, he said, “the system of power had pre-decided were fake — and had reasons to do so.”

Drousiotis did not elaborate further on the discrediting campaign he referenced, but said that “a person alone is at a disadvantage against this onslaught.” He added: “I want to assure the people who have trusted me until now that I know what I am saying and what I am doing.”

The Sandy affair centres on allegations brought forward by Drousiotis of a network involving senior Cypriot judicial, political and financial figures. All those named have denied wrongdoing. The evidence has been sent to Europol’s cybercrime laboratories for forensic examination.
