A post-mortem on the 78-year-old man found dead in a field in the eastern part of Paphos district, near Praitori, has revealed signs on the underside of one foot that may indicate a viper bite, according to the findings of the examination.
The post-mortem on Achilleas Michail has been completed and samples have been taken for further scientific analysis.
Michail had been reported missing since May 8. He had travelled from Nicosia to Praitori to pick capers, but stopped answering calls from family members, who then reported him missing to police.
Authorities had located a vehicle belonging to an elderly person and extensive searches were carried out in the area from Sunday, involving foot patrols and drones equipped with thermal cameras, without result.
His body was eventually found in an open area during a subsequent search involving a helicopter and sniffer dogs, prompting the full mobilisation of the relevant services.
