The United Nations peacekeeping force in Cyprus said Turkish Cypriot security personnel made an unauthorised entry into the buffer zone in the Pyla area and said it had stepped up patrols while monitoring the situation.
In a post on social media, UNFICYP said it had reinforced its patrols and was watching developments in the area.
The peacekeeping force said any unauthorised entry, presence or activity inside the buffer zone amounted to a violation of the mandate, underlining the importance of maintaining stability.
It added that it was in contact with all parties involved in an effort to restore the status quo ante and prevent actions that could adversely affect stability.
“The maintenance of calm and stability throughout the buffer zone remains the highest priority,” the peacekeeping force said.
