United Aerospace Maintenance Company (UAMCO) has secured Urban Planning Authority approval to build a dedicated aircraft engine test cell facility at the Aradippou Industrial Area, marking the next stage in the company’s expansion of its Cyprus operations.
The facility will be equipped with technology supplied by Safran, a global aerospace manufacturer, and will be the first aircraft engine test cell in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia to use a design that eliminates overhead cranes in favour of an automated “Spider” manoeuvrability system, UAMCO said. The company said the facility is designed to test approximately 250 aircraft engines per year.
Aircraft engine test cells allow for the testing, evaluation, and certification of engines under controlled conditions following maintenance and repair. The Aradippou project forms part of UAMCO’s broader expansion of its existing Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Cyprus.
Architectural and engineering design has been entrusted to DMA Architects-Engineers, a Larnaca-based firm with more than 40 years of experience. Main construction works will be carried out by GECO Constructions, established in 2005 by Giorgos Savva and Konstantinos Savva.
