Two foot-and-mouth meetings set for Tuesday at Presidential Palace

Two consecutive meetings on the foot-and-mouth disease situation in Cyprus are scheduled for Tuesday at the Presidential Palace, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis said on Saturday.

At the first meeting, the President will be briefed by the epidemiological team and the Veterinary Services on the current situation. The meeting will also review and assess the measures taken to date, including support measures for livestock farmers. The Agriculture Minister and the Ministry’s Director General will be among those attending.

A second meeting will follow with livestock and farming organisations, at which the issues concerning farmers will be raised — including those put forward by the “Voice of Livestock Farmers” — on the basis of strict adherence to regulations, legislation, and protocols.

Letymbiotis said the aim is to hold a discussion and exchange of views, with organisations putting forward suggestions and concerns so that the issues raised can be examined on an evidence basis.
