President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he did not want to extend the ceasefire with Iran and expected to resume bombing if a deal was not reached soon, even as Washington expressed confidence that last-ditch peace talks would go ahead in Pakistan.
“I don’t want to do that. We don’t have that much time,” Trump told CNBC when asked about extending the truce. “I expect to be bombing because I think that’s a better attitude to go in with. But we’re ready to go. I mean, the military is raring to go.”
Trump added that the US was in a strong negotiating position and would ultimately secure what he called a great deal. A senior Iranian official said Tehran was positively reviewing its participation in the Pakistan talks, though no decision had been confirmed.
