Temperatures rise to 28°C before rain and storms later this week

Temperatures are set to rise to around 28°C by Thursday before dropping later in the week as rain and isolated storms move in, a Meteorological Service official said on Easter Monday.

Meteorological officer Andreas Chrysanthou told the Cyprus News Agency that weather conditions would remain mostly clear until midweek, with dust expected in the atmosphere from Tuesday through the weekend.

He said temperatures would climb above seasonal averages until Thursday, before falling on Friday as unsettled conditions develop.

From Tuesday, dust will be suspended in the atmosphere, with concentrations expected to increase at times from Thursday onwards, he said.

Chrysanthou said the weather pattern would begin to change on Thursday as low pressure starts to affect the area, bringing increased cloud cover and stronger winds, especially along the coast.

On Friday, isolated showers are expected, which may be accompanied by thunder, along with stronger winds, particularly in coastal areas.

Over the weekend, the disturbance west of the island is expected to have a greater impact, possibly bringing isolated showers or thunderstorms.

He said temperatures would reach around 24°C inland on Tuesday, rising further to between 26°C and 28°C on Wednesday and Thursday, before dropping by about 3 to 4 degrees on Friday.

Seasonal average temperatures are around 21°C to 22°C, he added.
