A private investigator appeared in court on Monday, charged with “stalking” the person he was investigating.
In court in northern Nicosia, police officer Yilmaz Sevdali said the investigator had received 90,000TL (€2,575) in January from a 50-year-old woman so he could find out her ex-boyfriend’s new address.
He added that the investigator had violated the man’s privacy and caused a “general disturbance” by following him and taking photographs of him.
In addition, he said the investigator had previously been working illegally as a detective in Turkey.
He said that for this reason, it is “highly likely” the investigator would “continue to commit the same crime” if released, and that he should be held in prison pending a trial as he has no ties to Cyprus.
Judge Zehra Yalkut Bilgec acquiesced, and the investigator was ordered to remain incarcerated for a period not exceeding one month subject to a trial.
