Postal services informed of strike through social media

The trade union Isotita (Equality) has called on postal workers to engage in strike actions until Friday, December 14, 2023.

The Postal Services Department notes that it has been informed of this decision through social media.

Expressing apologies to the public for any inconvenience caused by this decision, the department pledges to make every possible effort to ensure that deliveries do not face delays.

The Postal Services emphasized the following:

• The decision for strike actions was made without prior notice, concerning demands related to low-wage employees across the entire public sector, a matter currently under discussion with the Ministry of Finance.
• The decision was not formally communicated to the department as required by labor regulations. The department learned about the strike through mass media sources.
• The total number of Postal Delivery Workers in the department is 298, comprising 207 colleagues involved in home deliveries and 91 performing other duties. Out of the total, 90 colleagues are participating in the strike.
• The department emphasizes its willingness to engage in dialogue and discussion of demands falling within its jurisdiction, always within established institutional frameworks and procedures.
• Every possible measure will be taken to minimize inconvenience to the public, especially during this festive season.
