Police in Famagusta are investigating a case of attempted murder after four people were injured in a brawl outside a nightclub in Ayia Napa, with a 21-year-old Israeli arrested to facilitate the investigation.
Officers responded to the scene at around 4:30 am today, following reports of a brawl outside the nightclub, and found four injured people on arrival, police said.
Three of them, a 22-year-old, a 25-year-old and a 41-year-old, had wounds likely caused by a knife, while a second 22-year-old had injuries to the head.
A 21-year-old was also found at the scene. According to witness testimony obtained by police, he is reported to have injured the first three, while initial examinations indicated that the second 22-year-old was with him.
Officers approached the 21-year-old, who cursed at them. He was arrested for the offences of public insult, causing alarm and disturbing the peace, committed in the presence of police.
The four injured were taken to Famagusta General Hospital, where they were admitted for treatment, police said. The condition of the 22-year-old with wounds from a sharp object is assessed as serious, while the 25-year-old and 41-year-old have minor injuries. The second 22-year-old, who has injuries to the head and face, was also admitted for treatment.
Three of the people injured are Cypriots, while the fourth is from Israel, and is a friend of the arrested suspect.
