A 24-year-old man was arrested and placed in two-day custody at the illegal airport in occupied north after authorities found four embryos in his luggage.
According to Kibris Postasi, the man was attempting to leave the territory when the embryos were discovered. He was charged with violating the law on the transplantation of human cells, tissues and organs.
The incident occurred on Saturday, and today the suspect appeared before the “district court” in Nicosia, which issued a two-day remand order.
Court documents state that the embryos were contained in four separate tubes within a special container labelled “Life Pack” with a reference number. The embryos were taken from an IVF centre operating in occupied north without authorisation from the relevant “authorities” and were seized as evidence.
The case’s “police investigator” said in court that the suspect voluntarily gave a statement.
