Nicosia’s municipal swimming pool will open to the public on Monday, May 18, operating for a full summer season for the first time in years, the Deputy Mayor of Nicosia, Chrysanthos Fakas, told philenews.
The pool will operate daily from 10:00 to 18:30 and remain open until mid-September 2026. Last year it opened only in late June, operating for half a season following years of renovation works.
Fakas said last summer’s reopening drew enormous visitor numbers, with the facility on some days issuing announcements that it could not accept more visitors due to overcrowding.
Pricing
Admission prices for the 2026 season have not yet been set. The matter will go before the municipal council in two weeks, after which the Nicosia Municipality will make an official announcement.
Last year’s daily admission fees were as follows: children up to five years old, free; students, soldiers and university students, five euros; adults, six euros; a couple with two children under 18, 20 euros; a couple with three children, 25 euros; and organised groups such as summer schools and children’s parties, three euros.
Seasonal pass prices are expected to change this year. The source noted that last year’s prices were reduced because the pool operated for only half a season, and increases of between five and 30 euros are anticipated in some categories. The 2019 prices, the last year the pool operated a full season before the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent renovation works, are expected to serve as a reference point.
The 2019 seasonal pass prices for a four-month period were: students, soldiers and pupils up to 18, 55 euros; individual pass, 85 euros; couple, 140 euros; couple with one child, 160 euros; couple with two children, 160 euros; couple with three children, 170 euros; couple with four or five children, 85 euros; couple with six or more children, free; and holders of a disability booklet, 42.50 euros. Free parking is available on site, and sunbed hire costs two euros per lounger.
Aglandjia pool remains closed
The Aglandjia municipal pool will remain closed this summer for a complete renovation. Fakas said the aim of the Nicosia metropolitan municipality was to have at least one pool operating within the municipality at any given time.
He explained that the Aglandjia pool was closed for full redevelopment works when the Nicosia pool reopened last year, and that studies related to the renovation are still ongoing. He said that based on current data, he does not expect the Aglandjia pool to be ready in time for next summer either.
