The president of the Cyprus Medical Association (CMA) Petros Agathangelou has called on a newspaper to issue an apology after it published, what he said, was a misleading report on his comments to the House health committee.
Agathangelou said on Friday that his comments were in no way disparaging of Greek doctors working in Cyprus but were instead intended to draw attention to potential staffing issues in the sector.
He further stated that the data presented on behalf of CMA was merely to highlight the fact that many doctors now working in Cyprus are not permanently based on the island. That, Agathangelou said, raises concerns on how to formulate plans related to staffing.
The announcement concluded by saying that Politis’ front-page report made it appear as though Agathangelou had turned his back on Greek doctors but “nothing could be further from the truth”.
