May rainfall hits 163% of normal with some areas recording triple the average

Rainfall across Cyprus’s free areas has reached 163% of the May monthly norm as of Friday, May 15, with some areas recording more than three times their average, according to the Department of Meteorology.

The average across free areas from May 1 to date stands at 31.9mm against a monthly norm of 19.6mm. The largest exceedances were recorded at Paphos airport (385% of normal), Limassol new port (357%), Polis (356%) and Stavros tis Psokas (340%). In terms of volume, Stavros tis Psokas recorded the highest average rainfall for the month at 92.4mm, while Xylotymvou recorded the lowest at 7.1mm.

Since October 1, average rainfall across free areas stands at 114% of the seasonal norm, reaching 555mm against a normal of 453.2mm. All areas have exceeded 100% of their normal seasonal rainfall, with the exception of Lythrodontas, which stands at 97%.
