Limassol man attacks officer at shop, goes to court, then attacks three more officers the same day

A 23-year-old man from Limassol attacked police officers twice in the space of less than 24 hours, first at a shop on the night of April 14 and then at separate premises the following afternoon, hours after being released on bail by Limassol District Court.

Police were called to a shop in Limassol at around 8pm on April 14 following a tip-off and found the man inside, apparently intoxicated and carrying a bottle of alcohol. The shop owner was already on the premises after the alarm had triggered. When officers tried to verify the man’s identity, he attacked a female officer. Reinforcements were called and the man was arrested, though he resisted, attacking another officer and allegedly threatening officers with a broken bottle. After his arrest he allegedly self-harmed by striking his head with his hands. Two officers received first aid at Limassol General Hospital and were discharged. The man was taken to the same hospital but allegedly refused to be examined.

The following morning he appeared before Limassol District Court, where the case was registered and he was released on conditions. The hearing was set for May 15, 2026.

That same afternoon, at around 5pm, officers responded to a call about a person causing concern at premises in Limassol. They found the man pushing tables and chairs, shouting and causing disturbance. When an officer approached and asked for his details, he allegedly refused, struck the officer with his hands and feet and verbally abused the officers present. He was arrested after resisting and striking two more officers. He was identified as the same 23-year-old who had appeared in court that morning. Three officers received first aid at Limassol General Hospital and were discharged.

The Limassol Minor Offences Department is continuing its investigation.
