Lawyer to face court over sexual harassment complaint by teenager

A case has been filed at Limassol District Court against a lawyer accused by a 19-year-old of sexual harassment, following a complaint over their meeting last week at the Anti-Drugs Unit (YKAN) offices in Limassol.

The case file was forwarded two days ago to the Law Office of the Republic for review and instructions, which ultimately called for the case to be filed at court immediately. The process was completed the following day, and the case was set down for trial at a later stage.

The lawyer faces a charge of sexual harassment. Until the case is heard, the presumption of innocence applies. He had been released last Thursday afternoon, after being arrested by CID Limassol as part of the investigation into the complaint.

He had earlier been held in custody for the purposes of the investigation. During questioning, he gave his own account, which was examined by CID Limassol investigators.

According to the 19-year-old’s complaint, the incident occurred during a meeting with the lawyer, who had gone to the Anti-Drugs Unit offices in Limassol to take on her legal representation following her arrest in a drugs case.

The meeting took place without a police officer present, and the 19-year-old alleges that she was sexually harassed during it.
