The House health committee is set to get a new chair after Efthymios Diplaros did not stand in the parliamentary elections and will not return to the House.
Before the elections, DISY officials considered Savia Orphanidou to have the advantage for the committee chairmanship.
If the chairmanship of the committee remains with DISY, Orphanidou is therefore seen as the most likely choice.
Among the committee’s members in its previous composition, Charalambos Pazaros also remains in parliament from DISY.
The party is now expected to choose a third MP to complete its group on the health committee.
The most obvious option appears to be Giorgos Pamboridis, who led the health sector as health minister under the Nicos Anastasiades government. However, for now, that scenario has not been officially confirmed.
For AKEL, Christos Christofias did not seek a seat and will therefore not continue on the health committee.
Marina Nicolaou and Nicos Kettiros, however, remain in parliament and may continue on the committee. AKEL is also expected to choose a third member for the House health committee.
ELAM did not have a strong presence on the health committee during the previous parliamentary term, although party leader Christos Christou was a member. He is likely to remain and may be joined by a second member.
Panikos Leonidou and Chrysanthos Savvides are also expected to remain, unless DIKO decides otherwise.
The committee also included Marinos Sizopoulos and Giorgos Penintaex, whose parties, EDEK and DIPA, were left outside parliament. Their seats are likely to go to ALMA and Direct Democracy.
For ALMA, Irene Charalambides had previously served on the committee as an AKEL MP. However, it is still early for the two newly elected parties to take a position.
