Fourteen people were arrested following a shooting incident at an industrial area in occupied Famagusta on Tuesday night, with one further suspect still being sought, according to a “police” announcement reproduced in Turkish Cypriot online media.
The incident occurred at around 10:30 pm, when a verbal altercation outside a mechanical workshop escalated into a physical fight between three individuals.
A fourth person then allegedly opened fire indiscriminately with a pistol they held “illegally” at a group of people gathered at the scene, including a relative of the alleged shooter.
No injuries were reported. A vehicle sustained material damage. During a subsequent search of the workshop, four 9mm pistol cartridges were recovered as evidence.
The alleged shooter remains at large. The remaining individuals involved were placed under “arrest.”
In a separate development in occupied Nicosia, a search by “drug enforcement and crime prevention units” of a person and their home led to the discovery of approximately 12 grams of a substance believed to be cannabis, along with six pharmaceutical tablets subject to prescription restrictions. The suspect was “arrested” and “investigations” into both cases are continuing.
