Four people were arrested in the Nicosia district overnight for drink-driving and refusing to provide breath samples during final alcohol tests, police said.
Shortly before midnight, officers stopped a car driven by a 40-year-old man on Strovolos Avenue in Nicosia. A preliminary breath test showed a reading of 77μg%, compared with the legal limit of 9μg%.
The man later refused to undergo a final alcohol test and was arrested.
In a separate case, officers stopped a 51-year-old man shortly before 2 am on Themistokli Dervi Street in Nicosia. A final breath test recorded 85μg%, compared with the legal limit of 22μg%, and he was arrested.
At about 3.10 am, police stopped a 39-year-old man on Strovolos Avenue. A preliminary test showed a reading of 64μg%, against a legal limit of 22μg%. He refused to provide a final breath sample and was arrested.
A fourth driver, aged 30, was stopped at about 4.20 am after officers found him driving in the wrong lane on Kimonos Street in Nicosia.
Checks found that the vehicle’s road tax and roadworthiness certificate had expired. A final breath test recorded 90μg%, compared with the legal limit of 9μg%.
All four are expected to appear before Nicosia District Court on Monday for the immediate filing of cases against them over the alleged traffic offences.
Ayios Dometios and Strovolos police stations are investigating.
