Former Attorney General Costas Clerides has said he will present any limited information that came to his attention after his retirement on certain service-related matters “where it should be presented, with full responsibility,” if the need arises.
Clerides issued a brief written statement on Saturday in connection with the Sandy affair, which stems from social media posts by journalist Makarios Drousiotis and lawyer Nicos Clerides.
He said he was making the statement “because some media are portraying the former Attorney General of the Republic as maintaining a deliberate silence on the matters arising from the posts of Makarios Drousiotis and Nicos Clerides.”
The Sandy affair centres on allegations brought forward by Drousiotis of a network involving senior Cypriot judicial, political and financial figures. All those named have denied wrongdoing. The evidence has been sent to Europol’s cybercrime laboratories for forensic examination.
