Foot-and-mouth disease: Four new cases found

Four new cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been found in livestock units in Dromolaxia and Athienou, the Veterinary Services said on Friday night, bringing the total number of affected units to 116.

The cases were found in units with a total of 2,765 sheep and goats.

According to a later update from the Veterinary Services, two cases were identified in Dromolaxia, one of them involving an unlicensed holding with seven animals. Two more cases were found in Athienou.

The Veterinary Services said the three licensed units where cases were recorded have a total of 2,758 registered animals.

They also clarified that the cases were found within areas already classified as infected.
