The drafting of legislation concerning the spread of fake news was top of the agenda as Justice Minister Anna Procopiou and House President Annita Demetriou met on Friday.
The pair discussed how Cyprus’ statute books can be modernised to deal with the spread and perpetuation of fake news, as well as other issues facing the country’s legal system, including the modernisation of the prison system, and ways to deal with minors who violate the law.
With these subject matters in mind, the pair spoke on a raft of bills which have either been submitted to the House legal committee, as well as those which the justice ministry plans to draft and submit in the near future.
In addition, the pair discussed other issues of common interest, including the functioning of the police force and the fire brigade, and the mediation of civil and family disputes.
