EAC workers stage 24-hour island-wide strike

EAC workers are staging a 24-hour island-wide strike today, from midnight on April 22 to midnight tonight, with all customer service centres and offices closed.

Power supply will not be disrupted, EAC said, with safety personnel in place to ensure uninterrupted electricity delivery to consumers and critical infrastructure unaffected.

Paying bills during the strike

Customers can still pay bills online through the EAC website, the EAC Mobile App, online banking, or at any post office across Cyprus. Applications for new connections, disconnections, transfers and new customers can be submitted by email.

Background and escalation warning

EAC unions met Energy Minister Michalis Damianos on Tuesday, where they raised issues relating to energy, electricity costs and supply adequacy. EPOPAΗ–OHO–SEK President Kyriacos Tafounas did not rule out escalating industrial action, according to statements he made following the meeting.
