A total of 356 dishonored cheques, amounting to €1,767,912, were issued in 2023, with 231 individuals (136 legal entities and 95 individuals) being listed in the preliminary registry of the Central Information Registry (CIR) for dishonored cheques maintained by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC).
According to data released by the Central Bank on Wednesday, the number of dishonored cheques issued in 2023 (356) has decreased compared to 2022 (473), 2021 (363), and 2020 (454).
However, there has been an increase in the amounts related to the cheques.
Specifically, according to the preliminary CIR list, the total amount for dishonored cheques in 2023 was €1,767,912, compared to €1,518,669 in 2022, €933,945 in 2021, and only €741,700 in 2020.
Furthermore, according to CBC data, the number of individuals listed in the CIR amounted to 274 in 2023, of which 101 were legal entities and 48 were individuals, along with 125 individuals controlling legal entities. In comparison, in 2022, a total of 255 individuals were registered, in 2021 there were 179, and in 2020, there were 186.
