Three young Cypriot entrepreneurs behind the Cyprus Procurement electronic contracting platform have launched what they describe as the island’s first business social network, modelling it on LinkedIn and targeting the thousands of Cypriot businesses they say have no single digital space for daily professional interaction.
Theodoros Achilleos, Alexandros Michael, and Michalis Poutros — who previously developed Cyprus Procurement as an electronic contracting system for the private sector — told Phileleftheros the idea grew directly out of that earlier project.
While building the contracting platform, they observed that Cypriot businesses needed more than a directory of service providers. They needed a live digital space to publish news, showcase projects, and build new collaborations.
The result is a new News Feed on cyprusprocurement.com, which the team said they aimed to develop into Cyprus’s largest digital business community — a space where businesses, professionals, and organisations could exchange ideas and create new professional opportunities, both locally and abroad.
The founders drew an explicit parallel with LinkedIn, which began as a professional networking and job search platform before evolving into a full social network with daily content publishing. Cyprus Procurement was following the same philosophy, adapted to the needs of the Cypriot market, they said.
The platform is free. Next steps include further development of the News Feed, new networking and communication functions, and tools designed to help Cypriot businesses build a stronger digital presence and reach new partners beyond the island, the founders told Phileleftheros.
