The Council of Ministers approved on Wednesday a new grant scheme worth €1 million, offering €500 to €900 for installing or replacing solar water heating systems in homes.
The “Grant Scheme for Solar Water Heating Systems in Homes 2026″ forms part of measures to support households and promote the energy transition.
Following the Cabinet meeting, Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry Michalis Damianos said the scheme provides incentives for installing or replacing solar systems, aimed at reducing energy costs and further promoting the use of solar energy.
The scheme will be implemented by the RES and Energy Saving Fund and will cover complete water heating systems that meet specified technical requirements.
Eligibility and installers
The work must be carried out by approved installers, who will be included on a special list, while the equipment used must be pre-approved and listed on the register of eligible equipment. The Ministry of Energy said these conditions are designed to ensure the scheme is properly applied and to limit the risk of applications being rejected.
Grant amounts and deadline
The grant is set at €500 for the general category, rising to €900 for homes in mountainous areas. A €900 grant is also provided for vulnerable households.
Applications will remain open until December 20, 2026, or until 2,000 applications have been submitted, whichever comes first.
