Cyprus topped the EU in 2025 for the share of individuals using the internet to seek information on physical health, with 80% doing so, according to Eurostat data on digital society released in December 2025.
The figure, the highest among all EU member states, compares with an EU average of 54% for individuals seeking physical health information online. Across the EU, 60% of individuals used the internet to find health information of any kind in 2025.
The data also showed strong growth in household internet connectivity in Cyprus over the past decade. The share of households with internet access rose by 26 percentage points between 2015 and 2025, one of the largest increases recorded among EU member states over the same period.
Across the EU, 94% of individuals used the internet in the three months before the survey in 2025, while 4% went the entire year without going online. Mobile devices were the most common means of access, used by almost nine in ten individuals.
One in three EU individuals used generative AI tools in 2025, most often for private reasons (25%), followed by professional use (15%) and formal education (9%). Denmark recorded the highest rate of AI tool usage among EU countries at 48%.
Online shopping continued to grow, with 74% of EU individuals aged 16 to 74 ordering or buying goods or services online in 2025, up from 65% in 2020. Ireland led with 95%, while Italy and Bulgaria recorded the lowest rates at 56% and 51% respectively.
Half of EU individuals — 52% — used electronic identification to access online services in 2025, with Denmark recording the highest rate at 99%. The main reason cited for not using an eID was simply not having one, reported by 18% of individuals across the EU.
