A couple aged 46 and 44 have been remanded in custody for five days by Limassol District Court on suspicion of carrying out two burglaries in the Limassol district in recent weeks, police said.
According to investigators, the pair’s alleged method was to remove aluminium frames from windows and doors and take them away, leaving the glass panes behind.
The first incident was reported by a 50-year-old contractor, who said his holiday home in Moniatis had been broken into. Three large sliding aluminium doors with their shutters, four sliding aluminium windows with their shutters, and three air conditioning compressors were taken. The complainant said he believed the break-in had occurred within the past month. The glass panes had been removed from the aluminium frames and left at the scene.
The second incident was reported yesterday by the owner of a disused restaurant in Alassa, who said he had received an alert from his CCTV system that unknown individuals had entered the premises. On arriving at the scene, he found an unknown woman sitting in a vehicle. When he asked what she was doing there, she said she had stopped to use the toilet and then left.
Officers from Lania police station attended and found that six aluminium windows had been taken, with the frames removed and the glass left behind. Investigators reviewing CCTV footage identified the 46-year-old and 44-year-old as suspects. Both are known to authorities in connection with similar incidents in the past.
Arrest warrants were secured and the pair were subsequently located and detained. During questioning, both exercised their right to silence. Police said investigations were continuing and searches were expected to be carried out at specific locations in an effort to recover the stolen property.
