The Congolese community in Cyprus has called a memorial march in Larnaca on Saturday, June 6, in memory of Christian Ndjondo, the 46-year-old man who died on May 27 after falling from a third-floor balcony during a police immigration raid.
The march will set off from Larnaca’s Municipal Park, at 4.30pm and walk to the site of the fall. Organisers said the gathering would be peaceful and called on all communities living in Cyprus to take part. “In memory of Christian Ndjondo, let us walk together in peace and dignity,” they said in a statement.
The community said the march was intended to honour Ndjondo’s memory, express solidarity with his family and emphasise the importance of truth and justice.

Ndjondo died at Larnaca General Hospital on the evening of May 27 from severe head injuries sustained when he fell from the third floor of the Filanta apartment complex near Larnaca’s old port, during a Civil Registry and Migration Department (CRMD) raid. Two other men also fell from a lower balcony during the operation and suffered minor injuries. Twenty-two people were arrested.
Larnaca Police Chief Ioannis Kapnoulas said the risks of the operation had been fully assessed but that an element of unpredictability always remained. He said no internal disciplinary investigation would be carried out, and that the death was being examined only through standard judicial procedures for unnatural deaths.
Two civil society organisations, Generation for Change CY and Far Right Watch Cyprus, have called for an independent inquiry into the circumstances of the death. They have drawn comparisons with the April 2024 case of Anisur Rahman, a 24-year-old Bangladeshi national who died after falling from a fifth-floor apartment in Limassol during a police raid.
A vigil for Ndjondo was held at the Filanta building on the evening of Thursday, May 28.
