Cold snap to bring rain, storms and snow on Troodos peaks

Cyprus is set for colder and more unsettled weather from Sunday, with rain, isolated storms, stronger winds and snow or sleet expected on the highest Troodos peaks.

Weak low pressure is currently affecting the area, while low pressure and a relatively cold air mass are expected from Sunday. Thin dust will also be present in the atmosphere over the weekend.

Today, the weather will be partly cloudy and at times mainly cloudy with medium and high cloud, which may bring isolated showers. Winds will blow mainly south-westerly to westerly, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, and locally up to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be up to slight.

Temperatures will rise to 27C inland, 22C on the west coast, 24C on the remaining coasts and 18C in the higher mountains.

Tonight, the weather will be mainly cloudy, with local rain and possible isolated storms, initially in the west and later in other areas. Winds will blow mainly north-westerly to north-easterly, light and temporarily locally moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be up to slight.

Temperatures will fall to 11C inland, around 13C on the coast and 7C in the higher mountains.

On Sunday and Monday, the weather will be mainly cloudy with local rain and isolated storms, while winds will be stronger. Snow or sleet is expected on the highest peaks of Troodos.

On Tuesday, locally increased cloud is expected at times, with isolated showers or a storm forecast around midday and early afternoon, mainly in the mountains.

Temperatures will drop noticeably on Sunday, falling well below average for the season. No significant change is expected on Monday and Tuesday.
